Canada’s Bianca Andreescu advances to fourth round of Miami Open

Canadian Bianca Andreescu is moving on to the fourth round of the Miami Open.

Andreescu, from Mississauga, Ont., defeated Sofia Kenin of the United States 6-4, 6-4 in third-round action Sunday afternoon in Miami Gardens, Fla.

The 22-year-old Andreescu fired five aces and won 69 per cent of first-serve points during the one-hour, 33-minute match. She also only committed one double fault and broke Kenin on all three opportunities.

Andreescu finished runner-up to then-world No. 1 Ash Barty at the Miami Open in 2021 but missed last year’s tournament due to injury.

Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., is currently taking on American Taylor Fritz in the third round of the men’s division.
